Cosmetic Dental Services to Create a Positive Change

Cosmetic dental services can help create positive changes to your teeth, improving the aesthetics of your smile. However, cosmetic dental services can also address certain issues that negatively impact your teeth and sometimes improve their function.

Popular cosmetic dental services that can transform your smile

Many patients have one or more issues that negatively impact their teeth. Our dentist can help address these. Treatments that might be recommended include the following.

1. Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening treatments are often recommended for patients with discolored or stained teeth. These treatments bleach stains and discoloration away with chemicals like hydrogen peroxide. A single treatment can make teeth eight shades whiter.

Teeth whitening treatments are usually performed using a customized mouth tray to apply the product. The mouth tray prevents the bleaching product from getting into soft tissues, and it ensures that the patient’s teeth are evenly coated.

Patients might have to keep the mouth tray in their mouth for up to 90 minutes while the bleaching agent goes to work. However, it is worth the wait because their teeth will be noticeably whiter afterward.

2. Composite bonding

Composite bonding involves using resins made from mixtures of plastic and glass to rebuild and repair damage to teeth structures. It is a non-invasive procedure that does not require making alterations to the patient’s tooth so that the patient can explore other options in the future.

The dentist adds the composite to the tooth being treated and molds it as needed during the procedure. Then, a curing light is used to harden the composite, and it is polished to prevent stains from forming on it. Polishing the tooth also makes it look more natural. Repairs made with composites can last up to five years.

3. Veneers

These are tooth-shaped shells that are bonded to the front parts of teeth. A veneer hides all the flaws on a tooth, making it look like a healthy tooth.

Placing veneers on a person’s teeth requires removing enamel from the front-facing sides of the teeth. The thickness of enamel removed is proportional to the thickness of the veneers being used. Shaving off enamel prevents the veneers from making the patient’s teeth appear abnormally bulky.

4. Crowns

A crown covers up the visible part of a tooth. Crowns can restore the appearance and function of the teeth that they encase. These restorations can be used to address issues like severe damage, decay, or discoloration.

Installing a crown requires removing enamel from the tooth’s side to create a better fit for the crown. In some cases, the dentist might have to rebuild a severely damaged tooth with filling before placing a crown.
